“Like finding a million rand lottery ticket in the gutter… High Diving will swim into your soul” Cue 2009

With a dynamic mix of physical comedy and tightly honed dialogue this new play shares the story of two star-crossed lovers as they travel through the hilarious and at times tragic minefield of inter-family relations and personal misunderstandings.

With a multi-skilled cast performing the roles of a range of highly engaging support characters, this modern love story is set against the beautiful and at times brooding backdrop of rural coastal and concrete urban South Africa.

Both ultra-contemporary and innovative in terms of style and storytelling, ‘High Diving’ is a heartfelt, finely observed and deeply compelling version of a classic theme.

With Janni Younge, from the brilliant ‘Elise’s Adventures in Congoland’ constructing the shadow puppets and consulting on the puppetry sceneography and animation, James Cairns from the highly acclaimed Brother Number and Toni Morkel from the hit show The Travellers.

I have seen “High diving” at the Baxter, on Wednesday and must congratulate the actors, who were fantastic. Their performance was overall outstanding and the way the whole play is set out is brilliant.
I would be very grateful if anyone could tell me the names of the songs (and authors) we can hear throughout the play. They were most enjoyable.

    Kindest regards

    Louis

  5. Hi Louis – I thank you for your comment – very cool. Thank you dunerat also!

The songs yes… – the main song for him ‘You don’t have me Girl’ which we used without the lyrics – as sort of film musical score – as transitions into all of Michaels scenes is our song made for the show – Nick Warren wrote the lyrics – and Andrew Ord a wonderful musician in Durban composed the music and sang. The final song – with his oh-so deep lyrics! Was also written by Nick Warren – I made them a bit more commercial – Roberto Pombo sang – and we composed it together with the pianist form Malaika – it was loads of fun!

The rest of the music – into her scenes is Cafe Parisian – French music for the small town feel. We used two tracks from the Juno sound track… then there were some random tracks that I have but don’t know who they are! Fab 80′s music – weird transition music… If I find out who they are I’ll let you know.

    Thanks again,
    Jenine
